“If India is computer, Congress is its default programme,” Rahul Gandhi said on Friday addressing a Congress workshop on social media.
Addressing a gathering of odd-300 participants from various states, NSUI and Youth Congress members, the Congress Vice President said the party holds the spirit of the nation.
At a time when BJP’s key face and supposedly PM candidate, Narendra Modi, is assertively slamming Congress and the UPA for hundreds of reasons, the so-called Yuva Samrat Rahul advised his party men for moderation saying the country does not welcome anger and hostility.
He added that Congress comes natural to India’s culture and asked the party’s media managers to stick to facts and civility of language while defying the opposition propaganda.
During the 20-minute-long conversation with the media chiefs of the states, Gandhi asked them ‘not to remain silent’ and answer ‘with content’ to the Opposition propaganda but make sure that the party’s reply on any issue is identical from district level to the AICC.
AICC Communication Department chief Ajay Maken insisted party leaders to connect to ‘Khidkee’, the social media platform of the party.
Gandhi is successor to a family that began with India’s first Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru and is now headed by his mother, Sonia Gandhi, who is the Congress President. His backdrop makes him the party’s main hope for elections, which are to be held in 2014.
The young leader has so far shared little of his views on how best to manage Asia’s third-largest economy, which is pacing towards the slowest rate of growth.
Congress had gained the second successive term in 2009; credit goes to the fast economic growth and welfare policies that aided the rural poor.
Since then, the government has thwarted voters, with a twine of corruption scandals and a weaker economy. But as it has its competition with a divided opposition, so it still has a fair chance of gaining power for the third consecutive term.
