There was a time in Bollywood when movies were shot only in a few destinations in India. The locations, usually, never went beyond Mumbai or the metropolitans. The case used to be the same for both, big-budget and small budget films. However, times have changed and so have the movie shooting locations. These locations may not be just another weekend getaway, but much more than that. We take a look at all time favourite movie locations in India…

Taj Mahal, Agra

‘Course the place doesn’t require introduction. When it comes to romantic scenes or a hard core love story, like that of the person who built it, this is the only place the movie makers can think of. Built by Shahjahan in remembrance of his favourite and beloved wife, Taj Mahal is a popular tourist destination of India. Also, listed as one of the seven wondres of the world, Taj is the first location directors picturize for a love/romantic scene.

Songs from many movies like Jeans, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, Mere brother ki dulhan, and the recently released Youngistaan have been filmed here. The viewers connect with the place so much that even television soaps stick to shooting romantic scenes here.

Goa

Goa has always been a hub of tourism in India. People flock from their native places every year, to spend their vacations here. However, the rise in tourists here, in the past ten years has been exponential. Remember when Dil Chahta Hai released? Ever since, people from all age groups, super young, young, and old, have wanted to get a picture clicked at the famous Vagator beach.

One of Rohit Shetty’s favourite location, movies like Golmaal, Golmaal Returns, Golmaal 3, All The Best and Singham have been filmed here in the recent years.

Leh, Ladakh

Remember Chatur’s reaction when he found out about Phunsuk Wangdu? I’m sure you need not be reminded of the location, considering how much was the movie loved by the young audience. People definitely knew of Ladakh much before that time; thanks to Lakshya and other war-related movies. But the effect Pangong lake has left on the viewers is irreplaceable. Post that movies like Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Bhaag Milkha Bhaag, have struck a unique chord in the hearst of travelers.

Athirapally Falls, Kerala

One of most popular tourist attractions in Kerala, the falls is a part of Chalakudy river and is about 80 feet high. Also referred to as the Niagara of India, this location has been used as a backdrop for many Bollywood and South Indian movies. Seems to be Mani Ratnam’s favourite spot for shooting. Movies like Iruvar, Raavan, Dil Se, Guru etc have been shot here.

Ramoji Film City, Hyderabad

The largest film studio complex in the world, Ramoji Film City is flocked by thousands of tourists every year. One of the largest tourist destinations of Asia, the spot offers you spectacular locations for shooting, entertainment, games and other movie related stuff. Some of the hit songs shot here are Ooh La La from The dirty Picture and Dreamum Wakeuppam from Aiyya.
