Vijay Goel to head BJP’s poll panel for Delhi assembly elections scheduled in November
Delhi BJP chief Vijay Goel will head the party’s two poll panels set up on Sunday for the assembly elections in the capital slated for November.
Delhi unit in-charge and former national president Nitin Gadkari expressed faith in Goel and said: “Under the state BJP leadership headed by its president Vijay Goel the party will post a historical victory in the coming assembly elections.”
The party constituted a 24-member election committee that will include Delhi assembly’s Leader of Opposition Vijay Kumar Malhotra, former health minister Harsh Vardhan and former Delhi unit chief Vijender Gupta, among others, said a party statement.
An election core group was also set up by the party. The 54-member core group includes former chief minister Madan Lal Khurana, former mayor Aarti Mehra and party’s national secretary Vani Tripathi.
Gadkari said the state BJP was “united”.
“I call upon the party rank and file in Delhi to work collectively and launch an aggressive campaign against the ineffective Congress regime and expose its failures,” he said.
There are 70 seats in the Delhi assembly in which the Congress, at present, has 43 seats and the BJP 23. The rest are held by independents and others like the Bahujan Samaj Party.
