A bill which expands the definition of bribery by public servants to include seeking and accepting of bribe through intermediaries was introduced in the Rajya Sabha on Monday.
The Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Bill, 2013 was introduced in the Rajya Sabha by Minister of State for Personnel V Narayanasamy.
The bill provides for making definition of bribery more comprehensive to include solicitation and acceptance of bribe through intermediaries.
It says that a commercial organization will be guilty of bribing a public servant if any person associated with it offers, promises or gives a financial or other advantage intending to obtain or retain some advantage in the conduct of business.
The bill also provides safeguards to retired public servants from unnecessary prosecution for any bonafide omission or commission in the discharge of their official duties.
