With BJP prime ministerial nominee Narendra Modi gaining popularity in the country among masses, the Pakistan is reeling in fear. The critics of India have started criticizing Modi as they too expect his ascendancy to the PMO. Quite often, Pkaistani media speaks against Modi and dubs his popularity as bad for their country.
Given the perfect 12 year governance record in Gujarat and his well calculated stand on various important issues, Pakistan may have nothing to fear from Modi as his being in PMO may turn fruitful in many aspects. But the country, which has troubled India a lot when it comes to cross-border terrorism and non-cooperation in such cases, will be devoid of the benefit of doubt once Modi comes to power.
Here are 10 reasons we think are behind this Pakistan’s fear of Modi:
1. With UK and US’s stand changing on Modi, foreign paradigms are bound to change. This may spell badly for Pakistan which has, till now, been thriving on US and China help.
2. Athough the possibility of peace are high but persistent trouble from Pakistan, like they have been causing in Kashmir off late, will be handled by Modi with a firm hand. Possibility of another war in those scenarios cannot be denied.
3. Modi’s no-nonsense policy towards terrorism will disturb Pakistan’s economy which has its finances running from various Islamic and terrorist outfits. The counter-terrorism activities will be enhanced with Modi as PM.
4. India-Israel partnership in defence is expected to strengthen and this will again deter Pakistan’s sponsored cross-border terrorism. Pakistan is likely to get less arms and ammunition once India strengthens its defence ties with other countries.
5. As Sanjaya Baru’s book mentions that PM Manmohan Singh was almost ready to sign away Siachen to Pakistan. Such shameful acts surely won’t happen and Pakista fears that the land grabbed by it will also be taken by India.
6. The possibility of more troops on the border area, like at the time of AB Vajpayee, with beefed up security will further deter Pakistan’s intention to infiltrate the Indian territory and carry of terrorist activities.
7. Pakistan also fears Modi because of his perceived Hindu-nationalist figure. They spread the lies that the Muslims will be in trouble if Modi becomes PM but the fact is just the opposite. Modi has walked a long mile to build good relations with Muslims and has been constantly working for their betterment. With him as PM, we may expect some good policies which will pull Muslims out of marginalized circles and that will make it difficult for Pakistan to mislead Indian Muslim youth. Less misguided youth means less recruitment to these fanatic outfits.
8. With a strong leader as Modi at the head of the government, it will be difficult for Pakistan to play the victim in the international arena and press India on the issue of Kashmir like they do in UN often. Modi’s stand on Artice 370 also invokes fear in Pakistan.
9. Modi’s known stand on the nuclear policy to make it more India-friendly also invokes fear in Pakistan.
10. Modi becoming prime minister will be a big hit to the pseudo-seculars who wear green scarfs and attack Indian establishment. This will, if not kill, surely reduce the funding which goes through NGOs and various other means to Pakistan.
Given Pakistan’s audacity regarding Mumbai attacks and recurring terrorist attacks in Kashmir, there is a need of a strong leader in the policy making. As Pakistan keeps saying that it should not be viewed as a country fanning terrorism but as a victim of terrorism, it will be in the best interest of India and Pakistan and their bilateral relations that Modi becomes the prime minister of the country.
