The Congress called for shutdown in Gujarat on Friday demanding Narendra Modi’s resignation in the wake of the letter by suspended IPS officer DG Vanzara.
As reported by Zee media, Congress leaders had also alleged that contents of a sting operation conducted on BJP leaders showed Gujarat government had provided a “safe passage” to the “chief conspirator” of former home minister of state Haren Pandya’s murder.
The state unit Congress president Arjun Modhwadia alleged that Sohrabuddin Shaikh’s associate Azam Khan is seen to have revealed that Gujarat government has helped a safe passage to Mufti Sufiyan, who is considered the main conspirator of the murder of former minister of state for home Haren Pandya.
The sting operation claimed to have ‘exposed’ a plan by senior BJP leaders to save the Gujarat Chief Minister’s key aide Amit Shah in Tulsi Prajapati fake encounter case.
Vanzara is accused in four encounter cases — Sohrabbuddin, Tulsi Prajapati, Ishrat Jahan and Sadiq Jamal. His 10-page resignation letter called the actions of the 32 jailed officers in four alleged fake encounter cases as patriotic and part of the war on terror. He vindicated the encounters in national interest and at the same time keeping with the policies of the government.
Including Vanzara, there are as many as 32 police officers, who have been jailed for more than six-and-a-half years, but the trial has not yet started and yet they are not been granted bail.
The letter came as a major shame for Gujarat government and Narendra Modi, who is being pitched as the PM candidate by BJP.
Immediately after the announcement of shutdown, the state authorities swung into action and detained party leaders at district level to scuttle the bandh.
