As many as 48 people were killed in the riots in the western town of Muzaffarnagar that began on Sep 7. More than 43,000 people have been displaced and are currently taking shelter in 38 relief camps.
The Prime Minister said that the incident was very unfortunate. He shared the griefs of the families of the victims, promising to punish those who are guilty. He is scheduled to visit three relief camps and the residence of journalist Rajesh Verma, who was killed in the Muzaffarnagar firing during the riots.
