Hours after injuring five civilians after firing on an Indian post along the international border in Jammu district, Pakistani troopers fired at another border post in Samba district on Thursday night, triggering a gunfight, an official said.

“Pakistan Rangers opened fire on a Border Security Force (BSF) post in a R.S. Pura area of Hiranagar sector of the international border in Samba around 9.30 p.m.,” said a paramilitary force officer.

BSF troopers retaliated, and the firing was still continuing as of 10.30 p.m., he said.

In the earlier incident, Pakistan Rangers opened fire at Pargwal post of the BSF in Akhnoor sector of the international border at 12.30 p.m., injuring a woman and four children.

Firing was retaliated and continued for some time, a BSF officer said.

The Pakistan Army and paramilitary forces continue to violate the November 2003 ceasefire and such transgressions have increased in the recent past.

The Indian Army guards the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir, while BSF troopers are deployed on the international border with Pakistan in the state.
