Close to 50 swine flu cases have been reported in Mumbai (13,000 in India) so far with no answer in place to tackle the disease.
Or is there??!!
Though swine flu is claiming lives and no topic to be joking about, there are certain myths flying around that would definitely leave you in splits (…and obviously, they are false).
You, too, may hear some of these tales, the swine flu myths, and how they can help tackle the disease. For the love of God, DO NOT BELIEVE IN THEM –
Homoeopathy
If you have received this message on WhatsApp, it is important that you do not fall for it. The message carries a picture of a homoeopathy medicine named “influenzium 200” that can apparently cure swine flu. Well, it cannot. Even United States’ FDA has refused to recognise this medicine for the treatment or cure of the H1N1 flu virus.
Medicine Named ‘Zinda Tilismath’
Zinda Tilismath has gained recognition especially in Hyderabad and apparently is meant to lessen any form of inconvenience ranging from toothache to vomiting and nausea. People, who have information about swine flu, know for the symptoms to be similar to that of the cold flu. However, it is not a “cure” for swine flu in any way.
Namaste Instead Of Handshake
Yes. It is exactly what you are thinking. As per Health Minister of Haryana Anil Vij, the Indian form of greeting, “Namaste”, can prevent swine flu. As per the politician, the foreign tradition of shaking hands is responsible for the outbreak of swine flu in the country. The best way is to not catch the flu, as per the minister, is greeting people with a polite Namaste.
Mosquito Bites
This genius about people contracting swine flu from mosquito bites came from none other than Mamata Banerjee, the present Chief Minister of West Bengal. And yes, it is absolute rubbish.
Donkey Milk
This brilliant tip comes from Karnataka, especially the Vijayapura district where people can witness a common sight – cars stopping regularly to buy donkey milk. Now, a layman might wonder what all this fuss is about and upon enquiring they will get the accurate answer – “The donkey milk is to cure swine flu”. Doctors, on the other hand, have rubbished donkey milk as containing any characteristics that can control H1N1.
Ramdev Baba’s Swine Flu Cure
Just when you think Ramdev Baba is keeping it low, he jumps out of nowhere, but with his so-called brilliance in healthcare. This was back in 2013 when the yoga guru claimed to have cure for swine flu. Certain ayurvedic substances in addition to a mixture of cloves and black pepper should do the trick, as per him. He even went to an extent to claim that his ‘invention’ had helped people recover and could be used as a preventive measure against swine flu.
