The author of IOM, Amish Tripathi hasn’t revealed the name of that Hollywood guy yet. But hold your horses, the cat will be out of the bag sooner rather than later.
But the moot point here is how these firangi guys will do justice to a hard-core Indian mythological concept. Are they going to opt for someone from Bollywood to play the lead role of Shiva? Because let’s just accept it Shiva would practically carry the film on his strong shoulders, and if the makers go wrong, God help the movie! Or are they planning to modify the concept a little and make one of those Hot Hollywood studs step into the shoes of the fearless deity. Imagine if they do that, it will surely give me the uncontrollable giggles. But just in case it’s true, here are a couple of options I can really think of as of now…
Gerard Butler: The actor played the fiery warrior in 300. He knows what it takes to look and feel like a fighter- it’s not just about wearing a loincloth and showing off brawn, it’s a lot more than that. Gerry is a versatile actor. In the book, Shiva is a practical and intelligent guy, who strives hard to eradicate irrational beliefs. The Ugly Truth actor can totally get all intense and powerful, and it will help if he doesn’t flash that charming smile often, which he usually does in his chick-flick films. He has to play a rebel here and not some sort of a romantic hero.
Brad Pitt: The actor was obviously fab as Achilles in Troy. The armour, the body-language, the attitude, everything was very warrior-like. Shiva was super energetic and competent, and Pitt has already proved his talent when it comes to doing high-octane action scenes. The actor looks like quite a cut out for the heroic figure; I can imagine Angie drooling already!
Javier Bardem: There is something very Greek-god like about Javier’s bone structure. No, I am not deifying him, but there’s something every almighty-like about his face. Shiva has a very sarcastic sense of humour, he’s passionate about doling out justice but at the same time knows how to take it easy; smoking chillum and getting all cheeky. Javier kinda has most of the prerequisites to step into the shoes of the ultimate Neelkanth. Not sure about his sword wielding skills though!
Hugh Jackman: X-Men, Wolverine; do I need to say more. Hugh is every director’s blue-eyed boy when it comes to performing any kind of gravity-defying dhamakedaar action on screen. The chiselled frame and his great thespian skills make him the perfect Shiva. And just like the blue-throated stud, Hugh is a good dancer too. If you haven’t seen him grooving, go have a look at the 2009 Oscar clips, the Wolverine star is killing it with his charm and entertaining booty-shaking.
