10. The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1
The third installment of The Hunger Games film series, this sci-fci war film came in at number ten after earning $610.9 million. The Jennifer Lawrence-Josh Hutcherson-led movie continues from where its predecessor ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire’ left off. The film also introduces President Coin, who persuades Katniss (Lawrence) to be the symbol of the uprising, at the same time trying to save Peeta (Hutcherson).
9. How to Train Your Dragon 2
Just like its earlier installment, ‘How to Train Your Dragon 2’ received critical acclaim from moviegoers. The high point, however, was the money it made, which was more than ‘How to Train Your Dragon’. The sequel made $618.9 million making it the highest earning animated film of the year. Starring Jay Baruchel and Cate Blanchett in the primary roles, the movie series would be completed with a third movie that will be released on June 9, 2017.
8. Interstellar
It is no secret that Christopher Nolan is one of the best directors of the modern era. His Batman trilogy proved the same and ‘Interstellar’ did not disappoint the audience either. The film starred Matthew McConaughey in the lead role as one of the explorers who embarked on a journey through a wormhole in order to ensure the survival of the human race. The movie made $622.3 million.
7. Dawn of the Planet of the Apes
Another sci-fi movie, ‘Dawn of the Planet of the Apes’ made $708.3 million at the box office. The movie follows a time ten years after a pandemic disease and focuses on the apes that survived and are battling with the human race. The movie also earned massive critical acclaim and accolades from the audience.

The movie did disappoint on the lines of the story, but it did manage to make more than the double the earnings of its predecessor. The movie made $708.9 million where we also got the opportunity to witness super villains like Electro, Green Goblin and Rhino.

Captain America: The Winter Soldier is the ninth installment of the Marvel Cinematic Universe and it earned $714.1 million at the box office. Chris Evans reprised his role as Captain America; the movie also introduced a new threat in the form of the Winter Soldier, a Soviet agent.
4. X-Men: Days of Future Past
