It’s very convenient to dig into a bowl of chips while you sit in front of your computer and do your work in office. Infact, if we open your desk’s side drawer our eyes will meet the likes of Krackjacks and Good Days and Lays and Bournvilles and all sorts of fried stuff. When you dine at a restaurant, you just can’t control the urge to take an extra serving of desserts even after feeling full. At home, you frequent between your room and the kitchen to steal a bit or two from the brownie which was kept inside the fridge with the intention that it will last for a few days, but that never happens.

While we all may feel the urge to gorge or snack on something occasionally, if this happens with you all the time, it can lead to health issues like stress, insomnia, diabetes, obesity, depression, anxiety, high cholesterol, high blood pressure and many others. If you have been binging to cope up with stress, sadness or depression in  the hope to feel better, you may end up in the vicious cycle of eating to feel better, feeling even worse and then turning back to food for relief.

Here are some ways which can help you get rid of your compulsive eating habit:

  1. Tackle stress: Find out ways to deal with your everyday stress and don’t let it get accumulated for days and months. You can start with exercising, and basic meditation and breathing techniques.
  2. Replace junk with healthy snacks: Instead of binging on chips and biscuits, try nuts and fruits and stock up your office drawer with these instead. Have a healthy and filling breakfast to kick start your metabolism in the morning and stick to nutritious meals through the day.
  3. Sleep: If you are feeling tired while working in office, instead of resorting to snacking to feel energetic, go for a quick nap and you will feel much better.
  4. Keep a calorie count: Download an app on your food which will tell you the amount of calories you consume when you eat one particular food. Keep feeding in whatever you are eating and try to stick to the limits of calorie content that is advisable for your body.
  5. Stop useless dieting: I have seen many people refraining themselves from eating when they are actually feeling hungry and when it reaches the level of starvation, they just hog on anything palatable that gets their way. Instead focus on eating in moderation with small healthy portions through the day.
