Manchester United manager David Moyes wasn’t expecting to use his ‘hair dryer’ on his players so early in the season after the mauling the team received at the hands of their biggest rivals, Manchester City. ‘The Noisy Neighbours’, as they are called, beat the Red Devils 4-1 in the most anticipated clash of the Barclays Premier League. Goals from Sergio Aguero (2), Yaya Toure and Samir Nasri were enough to condemn the current champions to a compounding defeat. A late Wayne Rooney free kick was not enough for Moyes’ men as they plummeted to their second defeat under Moyes’s regime.
The Red Devils were the talking point on Twitter too:

“We want Manmohan Singh ji to condemn the attack by Manchester City in strong words!” ~ Manchester United fans
After the mauling, Moyes said, “I’ve made them aware of that, but if ever there was a group of players I’d expect a reaction from it would be a group of Manchester United players. “I think the way they have been brought up, the way they have been bred with the manager previously, they react, that’s what they do, and that’s what we will do here.”
The players in Red were looking down and out on the pitch. Talisman striker Robin van Persie did not start due to injury and that definitely showed on the pitch. Winger Ashley Young was wasteful and the defence of Nemanja Vidic and Rio Ferdinand looked out of sorts, just like their manager.
Manchester United were linked with a hosts of big names including Barcelona’s Cesc Fabregas, which they failed to land. Moyes, who took over from retiring Sir Alex Ferguson at the end of last year, has still to show his class unlike his fellow Scotsman who went on to become an icon.
Unlike their opponents, Manchester City were all over United and proved that Pelligrini’s men are still in the hunt to win the title back from United. David Moyes got his tactics completely wrong and with a host of star signings missing, the team has a lot of work to do… starting NOW!
