Even though there may be some veteran stars in the offering at the tourney, these players are established names in the world of football with World Cup medals and honours already in their bags.
Eventually, the Indian Super League which is a product of IMG-Reliance and the AIFF; sports broadcaster STAR Sports will be airing all the games live across every home in India. Besides that, it will also be broadcasted Down Under, Australia due to the popularity of Alessandro Del Piero.
All in all, the ISL can turnaround the whole dynamics of Indian football with the inclusion of these ‘big names’. So who are these star players that we are referring to?
Alessandro Del Piero
With over 91 appearances for the Italian national side and scoring 27 goals, iconic striker Alessandro Del Piero has made his way into India for the Delhi Dynamos. The former Juventus striker, who is plying trade in the Australian football league for Sydney FC, will be donning the Delhi colours with some young Indian talent. It will be exciting to see Del Piero on Indian soil and bode well with some Indian players.
Robert Pires
After representing some of the top sides in world of football like Arsenal and Villareal, former French winger Robert Pires is in India with the ISL. Pires who will be playing for the FC Goa side, has won many accolades and awards that include a FIFA World Cup, Euro 2000 and also PFA Player of the year (3).
Nicolas Anelka
With loads of experience and representing the likes of Real Madrid and Chelsea, Nicolas Anelka will be seen donning the Mumbai FC colours. The ISL has attracted some of the top names in world football and Anelka’s presence might just add a bit of glitz and glamour to Indian football.
Fredrik Ljungberg
Another big star joining the ISL ranks is Swedish forward, Freddie Ljungberg. The 37-year old will be looking to share his European experience with the rising Indian players. The former Arsenal winger will be playing in the Mumbai FC line-up alongside former Gunner teammate, Nicolas Anelka.
Adrian Mutu
Controversial Romanian star, Adrian Mutu will also be seen on the Indian shores representing Pune FC when the ISL kicks-off. Mutu who has played over several clubs across Europe, is another big star joining the lucrative league and many Indian fans will be looking forward to the former Chelsea star score some goals.
David Trezeguet
Former France forward David Trezeguet will link up with many of the Indian players in the forthcoming ISL as the former Juventus striker will add some glamour to the tourney. Pune FC might not boast some top names but Trezeguet’s presence in the team boost the team’s chances to win the league.
