Look who’s back in the Premier League?
Chelsea’s iconic striker, Didier Drogba has rejoined the London Club after the 36-year-old Ivory Coast international, signed a one-year contract with the Premier League club.
What more, he will be reunited with his old boss, Jose Mourinho who brought him to the English Premier League. The Ivory Coast striker spent eight years at Stamford Bridge since his arrival from Marseille. During his time here, Drogba won three Premier League titles, four FA Cups and two League Cups that included 157 goals in 341 appearances.
So the true Blues’ fans, what are your best memories of the ‘Drog’? Well, here are his 5 best selected goals that he scored during his time at Chelsea:
Chelsea v Liverpool (2006/07 season)
Chelsea and Liverpool have always shared been the ‘bitter rivals’ in the Premier League and during the initial Mourinho-era, the Blues always dominated the Merseyside club. Here’s one of them especially none other than Didier Drogba who scored a cracking goal against the Reds which had all the ingredients of being termed as a ‘classic’.
Everton v Chelsea (2006/07 season)
During the same season, Drogba scored this lethal goal against the Everton side which is still remembered by the Premier League faithful. The Everton defence just couldn’t corner the Ivorian as Drogba generously took the ball lofted by his goalie, onto his chest and lashed onto the opposition net from 30 yards out! Till date, it remains one of the ‘wonder goals’ of the Premier League.
Arsenal v Chelsea (2008/09 FA Cup)
Didier Drogba has always been Arsenal’s arch-nemesis since his arrival and here is one that added to the list of goals he scored against the Gunners. During the 2009 FA Cup semi-final at Wembley, as the teams are locked on 1-1 scoreline, Drogba produces a moment of brilliance as the striker beats the defenders and the goalie to score a goal in the dying minutes to send Arsenal packing home.
Chelsea v Liverpool (FA Cup Final 2012)
Chelsea have always turned up for bigger occasions and this was one of them during the FA Cup final in 2012 as Chelsea defeated their rivals, Liverpool once again thanks to none other than Didier Drogba. Midfielder Frank Lampard was the contributor as his build-up play set up the striker who finished it in style that left all the pundits praising.
Chelsea v Bayern Munich (Champions League Final 2012)
It seemed that the Champions League trophy was headed to the land of the Bavarians but at the stroke of the 87th minute, something special happened. A corner was being taken by the Chelsea players and the legendary striker rose to power as he headed past the towering Manuel Neuer and scored a brilliant goal to send the game into extra time for Chelsea.
With Didier Drogba returning to his ‘home’, Chelsea won’t be that formidable force once they used to be with him, but surely his experience and guidance can be beneficial for the Blues if they are to win trophies this season.
