With just few days to go before the transfer window closes, Manchester United’s new manager David Moyes is racing against time to add a quality mid fielder. Since the time Moyes officially took over the reins at United from Sir Alex Ferguson on July 1 this year, there have been constant rumors on who would be the first marquee signing for Moyes. Names of players like Thiago Alcantara, Cesc Fabregas and even Cristiano Ronaldo have come up and gone. Now in the closing moments of the transfer window, Germany’s creative playmaker Mesut Ozil’s name is being cropped up as the latest mid fielder to be on the Red Devils hit list.
With just few days to go before the transfer window closes, Manchester United’s new manager David Moyes is racing against time to add a quality mid fielder. Since the time Moyes officially took over the reins at United from Sir Alex Ferguson on July 1this year, there have been constant rumors on who would be the first marquee signing for Moyes.
It was only earlier this week, that Everton rejected a combined bid from United for the services of Leighton Baines and Marouane Fellaini. If the rumors in the online media are to be believed, then Fellaini is in a better position to become a Red Devil than Baines. However, Moyes may not stop after buying Fellaini. The Scotsman may go for Ozil as well and that may well be due to the ongoing Wayne Rooney saga.
It’s quite clear that Rooney is not a happy camper at Old Trafford right now and wants to move on. Chelsea seems to be his desired destination. Now it would make sense for a club to let go of a player who is unhappy and only has 2 years left on his contract. But wait, we are talking about a player who is regarded one of the greats at the club, his goal scoring feat is top class and the place where he wants to go is a team that are domestic title rivals of United. So, unless the Scotsman is able to recruit quality players, it would be at Moyes’ peril that he would let go of the Talisman to his rivals.
At 25 and 24 years of age respectively, both Fellaini and Ozil would be terrific additions for the squad. The glaring loophole in the midfield position would be solved and the club would have two players that still have the best years of football in them. Ozil’s team mate at Real Madrid, Luka Modric was also earlier linked to a move at Old Trafford but the move went on the back burner once Xabi Alonso got injured. It is very unlikely that Madrid’s manager Carlos Ancelotti would sell the Croatian playmaker under current circumstances.
The case of Ozil gets stronger because as per the reports in Spain media, Ozil is more worried about his place in the team, mainly due to the impending arrival of Welshman Gareth Bale at Los Blancos. Bale’s arrival will make Ozil’s place in the starting 11 difficult and with the World Cup slated for next year, Ozil can ill afford to sit on the bench and not play first team football. Here’s where Ozil sees value in joining Manchester United.
Infact, Ozil was linked to join the Red Devils a couple of seasons ago when Sir Alex Ferguson had the German midfielder in his plans. However, Ozil chose to go to Real Madrid instead. As per the Spanish newspapers, Real Madrid would be happy to sell Ozil for around £38m and looking at the dry transfer market so far for United, they may just agree with the transfer fee. The transfer would most likely take place once Gareth Bale officially joins Real Madrid.
These last few days of the transfer window are very interesting indeed. Let’s see what happens.
