Finally, Luis Suarez will play football! The controversial forward will set foot on Spanish shores on Saturday against close rivals Real Madrid after completing his ban for biting an opponent four months ago at the FIFA World Cup.
After the World Cup, Suarez sealed a move to Barcelona estimated to be around 97 million euros from Liverpool. Suarez hasn’t played an official match since biting Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini in that group game of the World Cup at Brazil.
So what should one expect from the Uruguayan at the El Clasico? His manager, Luis Enrique has backed the striker to come good. He said, “(Suarez) will have some minutes for sure, how many is the million-dollar question,” Barcelona manager Luis Enrique said on Friday, after having wavered on the question for most of the week in the run-up to the clasico. It’s an important occasion for him, to play against Madrid, and make his official incorporation with the team.”
Here are 5 things to expect from Suarez’s debut at the El Clasico:
1 – His partnership with Leo Messi and Neymar
Barcelona had hugely relied on the services of Lionel Messi and Neymar to provide the breakthrough goals against tough oppositions especially when they are in the form of Real Madrid. But when Luis Suarez makes his first bow for the Catalan side, it will interesting to see how the former Liverpool forward combines with the his South American counterparts.
2 – Competition with CR7
Last season, Luis Suarez was above the rest of the Premier League stars with the likes of Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie proving no competition at all. But after arriving at La Liga, Suarez may have to be content with Portuguese star, Cristiano Ronaldo who is in ‘red hot form’ at the moment.
3 – Midfield magic could supplement his form
Barcelona’s midfield maestros – Andres Iniesta and Xavi could turn out to be a blessing in disguise for the Uruguayan. The Spanish duo are as ‘pass masters’ and their deliveries could be vital in Suarez’s form at the Clasico.
4 – Life after controversies
After creating controversies in the Dutch and English league, it remains to be seen whether the Spanish league as well might see the ‘darker’ side of Luis Suarez.
5 – Goal scoring threat
When Gareth Bale moved on from the England to Spain, some pundits predicted that the former’s career might take a backturn amidst the glitz of Real Madrid but it’s vice versa. Same can be said of Suarez as well who was a delight to watch in the Liverpool shirt (their fans will be dreading this moment).
