But the Manchester United board sacked their manager back in April and decided to hire former Netherlands coach, Louis Van Gaal. The Former Bayern Munich manager has the experience of coaching some of the top clubs as well as players and surely he can bring a breath of fresh air.
During his first press conference as the Red Devils’ boss, Louis van Gaal pledged to assess all of Manchester United’s first team players prior to the club’s tour to the United States. Van Gaal, who arrived at Old Trafford this week after guiding the Netherlands to an impressive third place in the World Cup, named a number of fringe players and youngsters in his first squad as well as new big-money signings Ander Herrera from Athletic Bilbao and Luke Shaw from Southampton.
His words at the presser were, “I’m now two days here. I’ve met a lot of people, and when you see that kind of people loving the club they expect a lot of me. Can I fulfil that expectation? I think I can, but because of the greatness of this club it is much more difficult than in another club .This club is also guided in a commercial way and we have to fulfil that also, but it is not always possible to fulfil both. I will do my utmost best. That’s what I can give. I cannot give predictions.”
With the futures of Ashley Young, Wilfried Zaha, Shinji Kagawa and Marouane Fellaini up in the air, Van Gaal has a big summer up ahead as the Dutch coach will make some chopping and changing to his new look Red Devils.
It remains to be seen who Van Gaal hands over the armband to with the likes of Robin van Persie, who is exhausted after the World Cup, Michael Carrick, who has had ankle surgery that will keep him out for up to three months, or Wayne Rooney, who will accompany the Dutch coach to the US tour.
