This Sunday might be the deciding one for either Jose Mourinho or Brendan Rodgers as the winner of the epic clash can have one hand on that elusive trophy. If Liverpool win, they will diminish the hopes of Chelsea’s title aspirations but if Jose Mourinho’s Blues do strike back, expect this league to go down to the wire.
Anfield will be packed to the rafters when Brendan Rodgers’s men come out to fight against Chelsea in what could be one of the biggest games of this Premier League season. If Liverpool overcome Chelsea and notch a 12th consecutive league win, it would mean the end for Chelsea and should hand another title contender, Manchester City right in the mix. But if City lose to Crystal Palace, then it will mean the EPL crown will move to Anfield after a gap of 24 years in the waiting.
But Liverpool have to be cautious against the Blues the latter also have a UEFA Champions League tie to tackle in the coming week against the mighty, Atletico Madrid. With that game in mind, the news that made the rounds was that Mourinho was given the ‘green signal’ by the Chelsea hierarchy to field a ‘reserve’ side against Liverpool. Whether the ‘Special One’ does take that call or not, the two BIG games might decide Chelsea’s future as far as the trophy hunt is concerned.
Chelsea having drawn 0-0 in Madrid on Tuesday has problems of their own with injuries to keeper Petr Cech and skipper John Terry as the duo will certainly miss the Liverpool clash. Even though the Portuguese has won six and lost just once in eight league meetings with Liverpool so far, the steep rise of the Reds this season might certainly test the money spenders!
Liverpool who are flying with the form they are in, have to thank their influential skipper Steven Gerrard’s who has given them the steel and fight in the midfield. Then there is Luis Suarez who is scoring goals for fun. His 30 goals this season have lifted Liverpool’s spirits and if the Uruguayan scores more, he is in line to break the records that were belonged to Alan Shearer and Thierry Henry.
With an all important UEFA Champions League in midweek, Chelsea are risking their whole season with two games. Mourinho might be a master at this but if the latter loses out to Rodgers (who was once under the tutelage of Mourinho), Liverpool is in line to create history and bring curtains to one of the most memorable EPL title race ever! (unless City ruin it)
