Just few months after he made the headlines all over the world as the ‘most expensive player’, Welsh star Gareth Bale has found himself in the news again, this time for the wrong reasons. A week after club Real Madrid reported that their star signing was injured and had small chronic disc bulge, Marca, a leading newspaper in Spain reported that Bale had slipped disc and needed surgery. And to prove the Los Blancos wrong, Marca interviewed a top Spanish doctor who claimed that signing Bale was a ‘big mistake’.
As quoted in Marca, Dr Avelino Parajon said, “If Real Madrid have signed Gareth Bale knowing about this protrusion, they have committed an error. That is not to say that tomorrow it can be operated on and he can continue playing, like has happened many times. But if he already has problems with protruding discs, that indicates that it is not a one-off. When a person has those problems at that age, it suggests that he has a great possibility of suffering herniated discs and symptoms arising from that over time. It is a bad sign for any athlete.”
Gareth Bale has a ‘nightmare’ start to his life in the Spanish capital. After a dream move, Bale has played 106 minutes in the La Liga for Real Madrid and 26 in the Champions League, scoring one goal in the former. Upon arriving, he was not even guaranteed first team football at the club. Even though Real’s medical team are assessing Bale’s situation, it seems the injury if worse, might keep him out of the much acclaimed ‘El Classico’ that is to be played on October 26. Bad news for Real Madrid fans!
