After suffering defeats in their opening group games, England and Uruguay clash in ‘decider’ at Sao Paulo on Thursday. Unlike their opponents, at least England had some moments to cherish from their debut in the competition. On the other hand, Uruguay will be upbeat rather than crestfallen from their ‘surprising’ defeat at the hands of Costa Rica. With striker Luis Suarez back into the team, this match turns out to be a scintillating one!
England:
Strengths – The raw talent that this England side posses was put to display against Italy which turned out to be a 2-1 defeat. None the less, coach Roy Hodgson will put faith in the likes of Ross Barkley, Raheem Sterling and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain to put England in the driver’s seat.
Weakness – The question still remains is whether Wayne Rooney be selected? If yes, will he be the lone striker? The Manchester United forward has yet to open his goal account and if he does not fire, England are in trouble.
Uruguay:
Strengths – The forward line of Diego Forlan, Luis Suarez and Edison Cavani could be unleashed on the fragile England defence. The side will be upbeat with Suarez’s return to the team.
Weakness – Skipper David Lugano will miss the game due to an injury that leaves the back four completely shaken. Luis Suarez is not completely ‘match fit’ as team management ponders his selection into the squad.
England must take their chances of an ‘unfit’ Luis Suarez and must hand out a thrashing to Uruguay if the Three Lions are to progress further.
