Termed as the ‘Special One’, Mourinho reopened old wounds on the eve of the new campaign by suggesting that rival managers such as Arsene Wenger and Manuel Pellegrini are not held to the same high standards as him.
This not the first time the Portuguese has attacked his rival gaffers and may not be the last as well.
He might sting with words, prick on rival managers’ or just enthral the audience with his on-field theatrics; Jose Mourinho is a cult amongst the English media. So what makes him so interesting?
These facts will tell you why ‘Mou’ is just not a famous cult figure at the Stamford Bridge alone:
1 – Jose Mourinho never actually had the love of coaching, that’s according to his mother, Maria Julia. She stated that Jose was not a perfectionist during his initiation as a coach though he did show some signs at a very early age to be neat and planned.
2 – Before taking over the reins as a coach, did you know that Mourinho was a PE teacher in his homeland back in Portugal? Mourinho was so smart and handsome that the former was a hit amongst the female students.
3- Mourinho is also a Hollywood fan and his favourite actor is Anthony Hopkins, the star of the Hannibal trilogy.
4- The ‘Special One’ also speaks Portuguese, Spanish, Italian, French, English and Catalan.
5 –At the end of 2011, the then Real Madrid manager was named ‘Rockstar of the Year’ by a popular magazine, ‘Rolling Stone’ magazine and featured on the front cover of their December edition.
6 – Jose was born on 26 January, 1963 in Portugal. But do you know, in that year many notable events associated with football occurred as well? In the very same year, the Bundesliga was formed in West Germany while the famous Brazilian club Santos’ won the coveted Copa Libertadores over the Boca Juniors.
7 – Do you know, Jose presented 27 pages of a PowerPoint document to during his unsuccessful interview to the Barcelona hierarchy for the job in 2008?
8 – When he arrived at the Bridge to take over as the Chelsea boss, Mourinho did the unthinkable! In a letter he sent to each of the Chelsea squad, had some famous words written in it –“Motivation + Ambition + Team + Spirit = SUCCESS”
9 – The Portuguese also has a doctorate to his name. In 2009, the Technical University of Lisbon honoured the current Chelsea boss for his accomplishments in professional football.
10 – The 2011-12 Liga title was a game changing landmark for Mourinho as he had won league titles in Portugal, England, Italy and Spain, four countries in which he had managed.
