The Chopra family will be celebrating Yash Chopra’s 81st birthday today paying a tribute to the late film maker
He may be no more in this world to create love stories that can only come for a romantic heart but we are sure to remember him in our thoughts and prayers. After a tragic case of dengue, Mr. Yash Chopra passed away on the eve of 21st October, 2012. Bollywood gravely mourned for the loss of one of the greatest directors from their industry and as fans we too miss the fact that he gave us such wonderful movies that turned into bittersweet memories. But the biggest connection to Yashji has been his love for Switzerland and how in most of his movies he featured the picturesque landscapes beautifully. Seeing his utmost dedication to the place the Swiss Government even named a train after him among several other such honors. While his wife Pamela Chopra has planned to celebrate his birthday each year in a unique manner this year they’re planning to do a fashion show with top 9 leading ladies of Yashji and of course Shahrukh Khan. On his 81st birthday here’s our little dedication to the King of Romance, remembering his most iconic songs shot in the Swiss Alps.
Rang Bhare Badal Se – Chandni
This movie was a musical starring Sridevi in the lead role along with Rishi Kapoor and Vinod Khanna. While the movie achieved success at the box office, its title song captured the essence of Switzerland and remember Sridevi asking the meaning cognac to Rishi Kapoor in one of the scenes? Yes, that totally happened in Switzerland! Sshh!
Tu Mere Saamne – Darr
Another beautiful by Yash Chopra which featured Shahrukh Khan in his first ever negative role. He was immensely appreciated by the critics and we can definitely contribute this song shot in the beauty of Switzerland as one of the reasons.
Tujhe Dekha Toh – DDLJ
A major chunk of this movie was shot across Europe and in this movie too Kajol had a drunken scene, ironically drunk on cognac. Taking lessons from Sridevi we think! But overall, this movie and its song somewhat immortalized Switzerland for us that each time you just even hear the song you automatically picture Swiss Alps. Try it!
Dholna – Dil Toh Pagal Hai
This is another Shahrukh Khan song featuring Madhuri Dixit. By this time we are sure Shahrukh must have turned into a local Swiss guy singing songs to European girls. His chemistry with Madhuri sizzled bringing this song a notch higher.
Yeh hum aagaye – Veer Zara
This epic love story surely made us feel nostalgic about our first love and think if we would have done the same for our first timers. This song epitomized Veer and Zara’s love and was one of the most beautiful songs from this love saga.
Aahista Aahista – Bachna Ae Haseeno
This song was actually a fun take on Yashji’s use of Switzerland for locations. Ranbir and Minissha have their own mini trip through the Alps feeling the love in the air that is created by Yashji’s immortal love songs.
The great film maker’s last directorial movie was Jab Tak Hai Jaan with Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma in the lead. Sadly Yashji passed away before the movie could release. It was his wish to shoot a song with Shahrukh and Katrina in his favorite destination Switzerland but because of his poor health he couldn’t travel and thereby the wish now remains unfulfilled. Katrina in one of her interview expressed her regrets on not being able to do a Switzerland song with Yashji and considers she’s unlucky. Watch Yash Raj Films tribute to their alma mater.
Well, a song or not his memory is forever etched in our minds and will be for days to come. Here’s the video of Yashji’s interview with Shahrukh Khan conducted on his 80th birthday, giving an insight to the true legend.
