Given the string of news and wrong decision by EC, people have started acknowledging CEC VS Sampath at ‘˜10 Sampath’ who has, allegedly, his loyalty residing somewhere in the Congress bastion.
The Varanasi district administration on Wednesday denied permission to the BJP prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, to hold an election meeting in the city on Thursday.
Reportedly, angered by the refusal, BJP shot off letters to the Election Commission alleging “partisan behaviour” by Returning Officer Pranjal Yadav and declared that senior leaders Arun Jaitley, Amit Shah and Laxmikant Bajpai would stage a sit-in at the Lanka Gate of Banaras Hindu University.

Modi was to address two rallies – one in Beniabagh, a minority-dominated area in the heart of the city, and at Jagat Inter College Ground at Rohaniya on the Banaras-Allahabad road. While he was given a go-ahead for the Rohaniya meeting, the disctrict administration denied him permission to address the rally in Beniabagh, citing security concerns.
Interestingly, Modi’s proposed meeting with some intellectuals in the city and Ganga Aarti were also at first disallowed. But late in the evening, the district administration gave permission for them. It may be an effect of the social media which noted that Aam Aadmi Party leader Arvind Kejriwal was allowed to do the same a few days back in the city.
Meanwhile, the EC has denied all the charges made by BJP. “Local authorities, the district administration there, who are directly in charge of law and order, have their assessment in the matter. The commission does not accept the insinuation of inaction or bias,” Deputy Election Commissioner Vinod Zutshi reportedly told pressmen in New Delhi.
This current episode has fanned the recent concerns of biasness of the EC. While BJP leaders, including Modi, were put in the wrong books by EC, Congress and AAP leaders did not even receive a chiding.
Yesterday, TMC chief and West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee called Modi a ‘donkey’ but no action was taken against her by EC. Also, AAP leader Shazia Ilmi walks free despite asking Muslim community to become communal and vote for them.
Amethi went to poll yesterday and booths were captured there by the help of police. BJP candidate Smriti Irani tried to contact EC officers on occasions of poll violation by Congress but received no response.

The situation touched the ceiling when Congress candidate Rahul Gandhi, who was present in Amethi on voting day for the first time in 10 years, visited poll booths and even to the area where EVM was kept during polling hours.
According to Time of India, Rahul reached a polling booth in Bhoaiya Kesariya Gram Sabha in Bhadarpur Block of Amethi at 8.15am with his aide Kaushal Vidyarthi and talked to a voter. At 9.20am he was seen emerging from the enclosed area after inspecting an EVM machine at Ashtabhuja Vidyalaya in Sahamau. At 10.24am he inspected an EVM machine at polling booth number 137-Amethi at the Madhyamik Vidyalaya Phoola in Tiloi assembly segment.
The pictures of Rahul talking to voters in polling booth and standing in front of EVM were circulated in the media but any action is yet to be taken by the EC for the naked violation of election law.

Priyanka Vadra’s secretary Preeti Sahay, though not a local and not even a party member, was present in Amethi and visiting polling booths without permission. She even indulged in a verbal spat with Irani when the latter confronted about her presence without permission.

Today morning, Modi registered his concerns over the actions of EC on twitter:
It is unfortunate that EC is not concerned about the institution’s neutrality & that is why our Karyakartas have to embark on a Satyagraha.
— Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) May 8, 2014
I appeal to my Karyakarta sisters & brothers to maintain peace & ensure that people do not face any difficulty.

My profound apologies to Ganga Maa for not being able to perform Aarti today. Wish these people know that a Mother’s love is above politics.

Given the string of news and wrong decision by EC, people have started acknowledging CEC VS Sampath at ‘10 Sampath’ who has, allegedly, his loyalty residing somewhere in the Congress bastion. The tiring schedule of longest election in the Indian history is already being speculated as a move to favour Congress.
A fitting reply to the EC and Congress will probably be presence of Modi in Varansi booths when it goes to poll on May 12.
