While Rahul’s assets grew, Amethi has shown no development so far. He received a rose-petal welcome today when he arrived in his constituency. It is yet to be seen what happens when Amethi votes on May 7.
It was an amazing welcome for the person who did not do anything for his constituency in last five years. Congress supporters and workers were showering rose petals on Rahul Gandhi and his family who had accompanied him to the constituency for filing his nomination papers.
The Congress vice-president arrived in Sultanpur and held a road show from there to Gauriganj in Amethi before driving to the district magistrate’s office to file his papers.
Interestingly, in his affidavit filed along with his nomination papers, Rahul declared that total value of his movable and immovable assets is Rs 9.4 crore. Apparently, it’s the double amount of what he had shown in his last declaration in 2009.
He also disclosed that the total value of his real estate assets (including the advance of Rs.6.8 crore paid on property) has increased from Rs.4.4 crore in 2009 to Rs.8.2 crore now, an increase of about 86 per cent.
However, the number of real estate assets owned by Rahul has declined since 2009 as he has sold the two shops he owned in a mall and exited another agricultural property in Haryana. The proceeds from the sale of the two shops have been used to make part payment on two office spaces. He continues to own a share in the inherited farm in Sultanpur Village in Delhi.
The affidavit shows that Rahul does not own a car and as an SPG protectee he is required to travel in an SPG vehicle for security reasons.
It should be noted that Rahul’s mother and Congress high command Sonia Gandhi had filed her papers from Rae Bareli constituency where she had declared her assets to be worth Rs 6.47 crore only.
Both the affidavits declare that the family does not own a car. But what is more striking is that Rahul, a person worth almost Rs 10 crore, took a ‘loan’ from his mother amounting to Rs 9 lakh as declared by Sonia in her affidavit!
While Rahul’s assets grew, Amethi has shown no development so far. He received a rose-petal welcome today when he arrived in his constituency. It is yet to be seen what happens when Amethi votes on May 7.
