Dear Priyanka, Can You Show Us Development In Rahul’s Amethi?

The blue moon of Amethi and Raibareli compared Rahul Gandhi with her father, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, and said, “Like Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul too had to face the criticism of the opposition parties.”

Priyanka Gandhi-Vadra thinks very highly of her brother, Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi, who is contesting Lok Sabha election from Amethi. She has said that Rahul Rahul Gandhi has a vision for Amethi and has done a lot of work for its upliftment, socially and economically.

“Rahul has foresight and his developmental works were not just limited to his constituency, but extended to areas around it. He has always wanted people to benefit from the development he initiated,” she told a public meeting in Amethi.

The blue moon of Amethi and Raibareli compared Rahul Gandhi with her father, former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi, and said, “Like Rajiv Gandhi, Rahul too had to face the criticism of the opposition parties.”

“Opponents say Rahul has not done much in his constituency but I have a long list of developmental works that he initiated for the people of Amethi,” she further added.

According to Priyanka, over 12 lakh women in Uttar Pradesh’s Amethi constituency were directly benefited by the welfare schemes started by Rahul Gandhi. “Today, Amethi has road connecting to cities, technical institutions, schools and proper training centres to train youth in various vocational programmes. Over 12 lakh women benefited directly from the welfare schemes started by Rahul,” she said.

Till now, she has been campaigning vociferously for Rahul yet she has listed very few achievements of her brother. As mentioned earlier on Youngisthan, Rahul’s constituency has been acking at many fronts.

For starters, it did not benefit from MNREGA that the leader, his family and the UPA government fondly talk about in each of their public rallies. As the Daily Mail reports:

Although there are 2,37,853 job card holders in Amethi and 84,734 families have got jobs under the scheme in 2012-13, only 1,250 families have got 100 days of work, according to a report of the rural development ministry of the Union government. The scheme promises 100 days of job in a year to its beneficiaries. The state government has spent about 76 per cent of the total fund sanctioned under the scheme in 2012-13, but in Amethi only 50 per cent of the fund has been utilised. The total budget for the job guarantee scheme for Amethi in 2012-13 was Rs 56 crore.

Another blow comes from the Times of India which says, “only 1 percent of schools in Amethi comply with the Right to Education Act, which is the lowest in a state that is already one of the worst laggards in legislating the new norms.

Just few years ago, Karaundi village in Amethi had raised slogans “Road Nahi to Vote Nahi” in protest. The opposition AAP, which cannot deny good roads in Gujarat, rues the bad condition of roads in Amethi and Congress too accepts it. IANS reported that a Congress party source said, “Kumar Vishwas’ charge that he sees no real development despite Rahul Gandhi’s claims of spending Rs.55,000 crore here is lapped up.” According to Firstpost, there have also been street protests against a grim power scenario and poor roads in the Munshiganj, Injauna, Jagdishpur and Gauriganj areas.

With the stark reality shoved in its face, Mrs Vadra needs to open our eyes by showing us exactly where development has been done in Amethi by her brother.
