B. Sc IT – A Bachelor of Science in Information Technology is an undergraduate degree, duration of which is three years.

The basic difference between a B. Sc IT and B.E. in IT is that the latter focuses on mathematical and theoretical foundations of computing, rather than emphasizing specific technologies, while the former focuses on various subjects like software, databases and networking.

Eligibility

Science subjects (Physics and Chemistry) with Maths is compulsory at intermediate level to be eligible to apply for this degree. The percentage of marks you require to apply in a particular institution depends on what the institution has set as the cut off.

Scope

A degree in B.Sc IT serves as a good base for students who wish to  pursue their career or higher studies in the field of Information Technology. You could either go for a Master’s degree or could take up a job in computer hardware or software sector. Here are a few job profiles offered to candidates who have a degree in B.Sc IT.

1. Developer

A software developer understands the various assets of software development process. From researching to designing to implementing and testing, a software developer works on the application level of the task rather than on a component level.

2. Database administrator

There is no industry that does not require a database in today’s date. A database administrator is responsible for the performance, security and integrity of a database. They are also involved in the planning, development and troubleshooting issues of the database. As an IT professional you would be required to understand the procedure and develop the database accordingly.

3. IT Manager

An Information technology Manager is responsible for implementing and maintaining an organization’s technology infrastructure. More than seventy percent of business rely on central information processing system to support efficient data management and communications. As an IT manager you’ll be required to monitor the organization’s operational requirements and technological solutions.

4. System analyst

System analysts are responsible for the complete life cycle of a new or modified IT system. From analysing the existing arrangements to implementing new system and provding training on the same, is what a system analyst is required to do.

5. Lectureship

Those who possess a Master’s or higher degree in this field are eligible to apply for the post of lecturers or professors in universities. You will need to take the NET (National Eligibility Test) or SET (State Eligibility Test) to be eligible for such a position.

The career scope for students from IT field are on a rise, thanks to the demand of IT in every industry. Employment opportunities that offer lucrative salaries are available to desired candidates. A candidate having a knowledge and degree in anything related to the IT sector is eligible for all the basic IT jobs.
