The Punjab southpaw who made a devastating 77 against the Aussies in the one-off T20 game last year, has somehow failed to repeat the heroics in this year’s T20 WC. Yuvraj scored a meticulous 10 off only 19 balls during Sunday’s seven-wicket win against West Indies. Even though the skipper has got Yuvi’s back, the latter must start to show the faith with runs on the board.
His underperformance with the bat has somehow affected, Yuvraj the fielder too. He dropped a regulation high catch of the dangerous Chris Gayle during Sunday’s clash and looked out sorts on the field too. Has the price tag of the IPL affected Yuvi mentally? This player looks a pale shadow of the one who blasted 6 sixes of an over to Englishman, Stuart Broad in the 2007 T20 World Cup in South Africa. Also, that one ‘Yuvraj’ who was agile and quick in the field and would clearly not shy hitting at the stumps.
Former India skipper Kapil Dev too has come in support of Yuvraj and has given him some moral support. Speaking to mid-day, Kapil said, “Bura time sab ka aata hai aur chala bhi jaata hai (Everyone passes through difficult times, but they fade away). But the fact is that he is totally out of touch. That’s why he could not take a single to win the match against West Indies. However, he can still win matches for India.” If Kapil’s words are to be taken seriously, then Yuvraj is a fighter! He has shown it off the field and now it’s turn to show on it.
Everyone knows what his capabilities are and it’s just a matter of time when the Punjab-puttar starts amassing runs. Even if he is missed in the ODIs, Yuvraj still remains a viable option in the middle order and the Indian team needs him, badly!
