Love is in the air for Chennai Super Kings’ Suresh Raina. The southpaw who has been excellent on the cricketing field through his belligerent batting, has finally found the ‘love of his life’. Yes, it’s true. The cricketer is reportedly dating Bollywood actress Shruti Hassan and the news is spreading like wildfire. Be it social media or the print; Raina’s new found love is now the talk of the town. Before this, Raina will be also leading Team India in 3 ODIs against Bangladesh in June.
Raina has been the star of his IPL side, Chennai Super Kings with an unbeaten 33-ball 54 to help them book a berth in the second IPL qualifier. Even though the cricketer has been reduced to international cricket recently, the southpaw will have a point to prove to the selectors when his side face Bangladesh.
Raina, who has been in the news for his ‘alleged’ relationships in the past (Anushka Sharma and Poorna Patel – daughter of Congress leader Praful Patel), might have finally found his ‘lady luck’. According to a report in the tabloid Mumbai Mirror, the 27-year-old cricketer who struck a friendship with Shruti – daughter of veteran actor Kamal Hassan, has now decided to take the relationship to a serious level.
It is believed that Raina and Shruti struck a bond when the latter came out to support CSK. According to the sources, Raina was introduced to Shruti at a party last year and the two have since bonded well over common interest – cricket. While the two were close since then, the source says in the tabloid that the ‘partnership’ has become more firm in recent times.
As quoted in the Mumbai Mirror the source adds, “Raina used to consider her his lucky mascot. This year, she has kept away from the cricket grounds. Yet Raina is playing extremely well. So the superstition has obviously ended. It is a mature relationship now and they are in love. But they are trying to keep it private and not speak about it in public.”
Cricket and Bollywood actresses are not new to the scene. Teammate Virat Kohli’s relationship with Anushka Sharma has been all over the media recently and also the likes of Harbhajan Singh and Zaheer Khan have been involved with actresses – Geeta Basra and Isha Sharvani, respectively. Not to forget, T20 star Yuvraj Singh dated Kim Sharma as well as Deepika Padukone for a fair bit of time. Prior to his marriage, MS Dhoni, too was linked to a south actress.
In the past also, Indian cricketers have been ‘tamed’ by the Bollywood sirens. Most notably was Sharmila Tagore who went onto marry Tiger Ali Pataudi. Neena Gupta also married former West Indian cricketer, Viv Richards.
Cricketers have busy schedules and so do the actresses and thus balancing their cricket careers with their personal lives though is always a challenge. Will Raina be able to woo her lady with an IPL title? Time will tell.
