Rohit Sharma is ruling the roost this year with two ‘Man of the Series’ awards (Tests and ODI)in hand and by scoring a double ton in ODI and two centuries on debut in different innings. A number of ex-cricketers are seen going gaga over him, inclusive of former Sri Lanka skipper Arjuna Ranatunga who praised the Mumbai-born. “When I saw Rohit Sharma, I wondered why he is not in the Test team. He is one of the most talented cricketers I have seen,” he said at an event held in Mumbai on Thursday.
Arjuna even showered praise on Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan and reckons Team India’s strength lies in it’s batting. But the former skipper went on to say that if they are to be the best, India should win in countries like Australia and England rather than winning games in the sub-continent.
The 1996 World Cup winning team’s skipper also spoke on India’s tour to South Africa next month. He said, “They (India) should play more Test matches. I don’t know why they play two Test matches. It should be three, at least.”
Arjuna also backed the DRS system citing it as the best thing that has happened to cricket. “I am a great believer of DRS and I think it should stay. It should be made more advanced than trying to get rid of it. Sometimes people will say it is not 100 per cent accurate, but at least it is some percentage accurate. If I give a wrong decision, at least I have a chance to correct it. That is the best thing that happened to cricket in last 20-30 years,” he said.
