MS Dhoni talks about Kohli Shikhar spat. Dhoni, with his uncanny wit, saves the day for all. Not once, but again and again. We have another story here.
Here goes the ball rolling!
Mahendra Singh Dhoni, the creator of many ‘Sir Jadeja’ jokes and a brilliant mimic behind the stumps was at his comic best while dismissing media reports at a Day 4 press session regarding a scandalous dressing room spat between Shikhar Dhawan and Virat Kohli.
The spat allegedly took place on an erstwhile Day 2 of the Brisbane Test after Shikhar’s hand injury. MSD responded with pure wit and took the media head on by declaring that Virat indeed stabbed Shikhar; although, he soon spilled the beans on how real it actually was to avoid controversy.
“Actually, that was the case. Virat used a knife. He stabbed Shikhar, who just recovered out of that then we pushed him to bat. These are all stories. Marvel, maybe Warner Bros. or somebody should pick up this and make a nice a movie out of it,” Dhoni said, as reported by cricket.com.au.
During the second Test at Brisbane, Dhawan gravely injured his hand during practice just moments ahead of Day 4, due to which Kohli had to walk out to bat with Cheteshwar Pujara. Following India’s dismal loss on the same day, Dhoni proclaimed that the incident caused an “unrest” in the side as they could give only a 5-10 minutes notice to Kohli for him to go out to bat. Kohli was dismissed for just 1 off 11 balls which many cricket experts termed as the turning point of the match.
Dhoni concurred while reacting to media speculation that “Journalists start making their own stories during Indian tours. If somebody from the team has actually told you this, it’d be interesting if you could give us the name. As far as the reality is concerned, there’s been nothing like that”.
If it hadn’t been for Dhoni’s sarcastic wit, this matter, if unresolved could have left the Indian side red-faced and dampened the spirit of millions of fans who always see the entire squad as one cohesive unit.
For now, India, trailing 2-0, take on Australia in the Boxing Day Test at Melbourne desperately needing a win to stay alive in the four-match series.
