After scoring 95 and 89 in his last two innings, Maxwell has gone on a rampage that saw him produce yet another powerhouse knock. His innings of 95 included nine huge sixes and five fours as Punjab rallied to a huge 193 for six in their alloted 20 overs.
Led by Aussie T20 skipper, George Bailey, the Kings shone with the ball as well as the Hyderabad side was bundled out for a mere 121.
During his knock, the Aussie all-rounder was given a lifeline by the Sunrisers when they dropped him twice in the innings. Even though Maxwell fell to Indian leggie Amit Mishra, the Aussie batsman had already made the damage. In the bowling department for the Kings, former Indian seamer, Lakshmipathy Balaji made a point with his figures of 4-0-13-4, while Aussie quickie Mitchell Johnson too grabbed two wickets. The likes of Akshar Patel (2/20), Sandeep Sharma (1/26) and Rishi Dhawan (1/23) also contributed in Punjab’s huge victory.
In the run chase, Hyderabad never looked confident of chasing a mammoth total of 194. If it was Mitchell Johnson’s dismissal of skipper Shikhar Dhawan in his second ball, Balaji too complimented the Oz bowler with twin strikes in his opening over which derailed Hyderabad’s run chase.
With the Indian Premier League just settling in, it seems like there’s no stopping the Punjab juggernaut. Especially if Glenn Maxwell in that kind of form, every IPL team has the right to fear this opposition and other than that, Bailey would want his other players to chip in too. The Sunrisers Hyderabad still looked a deflated side and even if the likes of Aaron Finch and David Warner in their line-up, the Shikhar Dhawan-led team has still more homework left to do.
