When the other rival IPL sides were busy retaining their star players, Delhi Daredevils ‘surprisingly’ did not retain any of their players that included the likes of Virender Sehwag, David Warner and Morne Morkel.
When the rest of the IPL sides were busy retaining their star players, Delhi Daredevils ‘surprisingly’ did not retain any of their players, including the likes of Virender Sehwag, David Warner and Morne Morkel. With coach Gary Kirsten in the ranks, Delhi Daredevils’ administrators are going for a ‘new’ side. With many new faces in the auction list, here are few names that we suggest they should buy:
David Warner
Aussie opener, David Warner was in devastating form during the concluded Ashes series. His overall IPL record – 2 centuries and 10 fifties to his name at a strike rate of over 130.00 and has average of almost 30.00. Kirsten and co. do have the option of ‘Right to Match’ card that allows them to buy their old players and this should be a no-brainer.
Michael Clarke
Delhi Daredevils have been unfortunate over the years in the IPL with injuries and bad form. Last season, Mahela Jayawardena did an apt job of leading from the front but still could not take his side further. With Ashes hero, Michael Clarke available in the wings, he might be the ‘best option’ to lead the Daredevils in the forthcoming season. Who knows, the Ashes pride might do the trick for Delhi too!
Yuvraj Singh
After the dissolved ‘Sahara Pune Warriors’, many of its top stars are free to go elsewhere. One such name includes – southpaw Yuvraj Singh. The Punjab-born star who has been left out of the ODI squad, is still a big T20 player and on his day, can wreck a bowler’s figures.
Mitchell Johnson
With over 37 wickets in the Ashes series, Mitchell Johnson was a ‘man on a mission’. His former skipper, Ricky Ponting admitted that Johnson’s blazing form was down to his performance in the 2013 IPL. If Delhi are to surge ahead, their top most priority should be snatching up Mitchell Johnson from under the noses of Mumbai Indians.
Pragyan Ojha
Delhi Daredevils might have been relying on youngster Shahbaz Nadeem but they need a star spinner in the ranks. Pragyan Ojha just could be one of them to scalp wickets at regular intervals. Ojha’s left-arm spin has left many top batsmen bamboozled and his arrival might just do the trick!
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Indian cricket team’s arising star, Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been magnificent since his debut against Pakistan in 2011. The medium-pacer did not live up to the expectations in South Africa but with New Zealand awaiting, the conditions can really suit the bowler. If Delhi can add Kumar in their ranks, they can surely expect wickets in every match!
