As Team India begins it’s South African sojourn, the Men in Blue have had a torrid time in the ‘Rainbow nation’ as far as the ODI’s have been concerned. Here is a look at the journey so far for Team India in ODI’s:
1992-93 Tour
India toured South Africa for the first time during 1992-93 when Kepler Wessels was the captain of the Proteas. India led by Mohammad Azharrudin was hammered 5-2 in the 7 match series.
1996-97 Standard Bank Tri-series
Besides India and South Africa, Zimbabwe too was involved in this tri-series. In the finals, South Africa rolled over India as the former went on to win the series with ease.
1999-00 Quadrangular series
Team India took on the African nations (South Africa, Kenya and Zimbabwe) sans Sachin Tendulkar. Led by Ajay Jadeja, India made it into the finals but ended up on the losing side with South Africa again being victorious.
2001-02 Tri-series
The Tri-series included Kenya with hosts South Africa. In the finals, Team India failed with the bat as the Proteas again proved too hot to handle.
2006-07 ODI series
Team India’s nightmare in South Africa continued as this time they were steam rolled by Graeme Smith’s men who won the series 4-0.
2010-11 series
The only time India came close of a series clinching win in South Africa but ended up losing with a score of 3-2.
