India A take on West Indies A in a three-match ODI series from tomorrow and the names of Yuvraj Singh, Robin Utthapa and Unmukt Chand are being thrown about as potentials on the team. As the seniors have tough tours ahead, we take a look at the men who could impress the selectors and earn a spot on the MS Dhoni-led team.
Yuvraj Singh
His glorious days are behind him as Yuvraj Singh looks to earn back the India call-up. The south paw has lost his place in the ODI squad due to injuries and poor form but now is the time to reclaim it with nothing better than leading the India A team. If Yuvi finds his feet moving then there is no stopping the Punjab-born lad who has over 8000 runs in 282 ODIs with 13 tons and 50 half-centuries.
Unmukt Chand
Even though he has heralded in a new kind of sportsmanship, Unmukt Chand is still to get a break in the national squad. The glory of thrashing New Zealand A 3-0 was achieved under the captaincy of Chand, who perfectly marshalled his team to victory and also amassed 164 runs at an average of 48. If such is a form of the Delhi batsman, the day is not too far away when India will see Virat and Unmukt leading the side to victory.
Robin Uthappa
The Karnataka-born batsman has been in an ODI ‘exile’ since losing a spot on the Indian team. Uthappa who since has been plying trade in the IPL and domestic league has no better chances of impressing the selectors in the ODIs against the West Indies A team. Robin, who has only 38 ODI games to his name for the senior Indian team, needs to be at his best during the three-ODI matches that begin from September 15.
Yusuf Pathan
Even though his younger brother has been a regular in the senior team, Yusuf has somewhat lost his place in the squad. Yusuf who has been in and out of the Indian team needs to put his feet on the ground and start scoring runs again. The current games against the West Indies A provides an excellent opportunity for the man from Baroda to win back the confidence of the BCCI selectors.
Baba Aparajith
Many Indian fans might not know but Baba Aparajith was one of the stars for India in the U-19 World Cup triumph last year in Australia. He went on to make his Ranji debut for Tamil Nadu and has not looked back ever since. Aparajith will be rubbing shoulders with the likes of Yuvraj Singh, Virender Sehwag and Yusuf Pathan and this may be his best opportunity to show his true talent. Aparajith is a good batsman and also a spinner, which makes him a handy allrounder that the Indian team is currently lacking in.
