When the Indian team lost diastrously to Sri Lanka in 2008, the blame was put on the DRS (Decision Review System). The BCCI then decided to avoid the usage of DRS in the games that included India barring the ICC tournaments. Though other countries which are included in the ICC have decided to go with the use of technology, BCCI stands firm on not using it.
West Indies great and two-time World Cup winner, Clive Lloyd has reckoned that India should give DRS a look into. As quoted in a national newspaper, Lloyd said, “I think DRS should be applicable throughout the world. India can probably play under DRS even if they don’t like it. The absence of DRS catches an umpire off guard when he comes to India after officiating in five series with DRS. The system needs a serious look.”
He further added, ” I had a chat with Kumble (Anil) the other day and we felt that the third umpire could be much more involved in the game. If he sees someone who has hit the ball and hasn’t walked, he should intervene. Nobody walks anymore. We could have a better game and the better team would always win.”
Sachin Tendulkar was dubiously given out Leg Before in the 1st Test against the West Indies at the Eden Gardens. Umpire Nigel Llong had come under fire for his wrong decision as the replays showed that the ball was too high. The ball remains in BCCI’s court now!
