The high-flying Kings XI Punjab will look to book a place in the semis as they come against a struggling Cape Cobras in their last game of the Group B stage of the Champions League Twenty20 at Mohali. Riding high on the laurels of David Miller and Virender Sehwag, the Kings Kings have already booked a spot in the semis but a win here today could take them atop of the Group B.
On the other hand, the Cape Cobras need to win this game at any cost if they are to progress in the next stage of the tournament and while a loss could end their CLT20 sojourn.
The South African T20 champions have a lot of quality in their team with the likes of Hashim Amla, Justin Kemp and Justin Ontong bringing in some international experience. The Cape Cobras are currently third in the group but with a victory today could add more pressure on the Hobart Hurricanes. Moreover, this victory could mean a lot to the Cobras as it may boost their morale and coming up against a top notch side in Punjab.
As far as the Punjab side are concerned, their opening partnership of Manan Vohra and Virender Sehwag has been in-form but Glenn Maxwell’s poor run of form may cause a concern in the camp. Without the injured Mitchell Johnson, Anureet Singh, Parvinder Awana and Lakshmipathy Balaji have a huge task on their hands. George Bailey may give a chance to some new faces and might decide to rest a few big names.
The Cape Cobras who won their previous contest against the Barbados Tridents will look upon veteran bowler, Charl Langeveldt to lead the bowling attack and motivate the rest of the younger bowlers. The likes of Robin Peterson who is also known to whack some big shots out of the ground, gives the South African T20 side a good balance in the middle order.
