The Shikhar Dhawan-led team has gone through to the qualifiers and now will be looking forward to playing their inaugural CLT20. After a decent Indian Premier League this year, hopes are high from their fans. Will they give a good performance on the pitch? Here is a lowdown on the strengths and weaknesses of the team:
Strengths:
Shikhar Dhawan remains their key weapon as far as batting is concerned. The south paw is in the form of his life and on could single handedly take his team to victory. The bowling line-up looks solid as ever with Dale Steyn and Ishant Sharma leading the line. Spinner Amit Mishra will be the ‘go to’ bowler with the variety of spin he brings to his bowling. Also the likes of Darren Sammy, JP Duminy, Thisara Perera and Cameron White would be adding a touch of foreign flavour to the team.
Weakness:
Besides Shikhar Dhawan, no other batsman looks like taking on the opposition bowlers. Also the former has been appointed the skipper of the side, so this may test his batting as well as captaincy skills.
Man to watch out:
Amit Mishra is a man on a mission. After a wonderful 2013 Indian Premier League where he grabbed 21 wickets is all out to overtake that tally. With many top tours scheduled for Team India, this is the best opportunity to impress the selectors and seal a spot in the squad.
Verdict:
Shikhar Dhawan’s leadership in the qualifying games has impressed many ex-cricketers but the real test lies in the group stages. Don’t be surprised if they make it to the finals of the mega event!
