German luxury car manufacturer Audi on Monday said its India operations will be headed by Joe King, general manager of Audi Australia’s retail subsidiary, Audi Centre Sydney from Sep 1, 2013.
According to the company, King has played an integral role in the management team of Audi Australian and has held various roles with BMW Group Australia.
“Educated at the University of Melbourne, King brings more than 23 years of automotive experience to the role, having commenced his career with Toyota in 1990,” the company said in a statement.
“He has extensive experience with both mass and premium market brands, including Toyota, BMW and Audi in Australia and has experience in both retail and wholesale roles within the automotive industry.”
King will take over his role from incumbent Michael Perschke, who has been assigned to head network strategy and business management, international level, at AUDI AG.
Perschke had moved to Audi India in July, 2010 and played an instrumental role in taking the brand from 3,003 cars off-take in 2010 to 9,003 cars in 2012.
The company’s sales in the first seven months of the calender year grew by 19 percent at 5,551 vehicles from 4,680 vehicles sold during the corresponding period of 2012.
