The Indian government is going to implement its New Education Policy (NEP) from the coming academic year, said the Human Resource Development Minister Smt. Smriti Irani.
“We will start a new educational policy soon. Educational policy takes from around seven months to three years, and politicians, bureaucrats and experts to draw it up. I say this not only as an HRD minister, but also as a mother of two CBSE school going kids”, added Irani who was present at a valedictory function of the 21st Annual Shahodaya conference of CBSE at Nedumbassery. The NEP is expected to help the educational institutes meet various challenges that arise out of deficiency in quality, innovation and research.
The implementation will take place after extensive deliberations, which will begin next year. The need of the hour is to engage students, teachers, and other officials in creating an educational policy that benefits the overall literacy rate of the country. Decision making rights for education had been restricted to politicians until recently. However, due to changing face of education in India in recent years, it has become imperative that people from all walks of life share their experiences and contribute in the betterment of the system.
Suggestions regarding the way the policies should function would be invited from people of all states in the country. The role of print and online media will be an important step in this regard, as the government will utilize them to involve the general public in the policy formulation procedure.
The past two decades have seen significant changes in the education system in India. Inclusion of different models at elementary level, technological means in classrooms, revision of higher education system and a number of other changes. We hope the NEP brings all prosperity in the education category in India.
