Once again in news regarding the Four Year Undergraduate Program (FYUP), the Delhi University has been slammed for creating a mess of admissions for the academic year 2014, by the Delhi High Court.
The University that was earlier going to continue with the implemented FYUP, but finally had to roll back to the three-year discipline, was blamed by a bench of Chief Justice G Rohini and Justice R S Endlaw, regarding the first round of admissions. The situation came into account when a student, though eligible to get admission in any college in DU under sports quota of FYUP, could not be admitted. The reason being, Maths as a mandatory subject in HSC, to take admission in three=year program.
The Court on the same ground ordered Delhi University’s Maharaja Agrasen College to admit the student under sports quota. The order given by single judge bench dismissed the order from the college which did not accept the plea for the student’s admission, as he did not have maths as a subject.
The applicant is left without admission to any of the colleges in DU, in spite of securing high marks making him eligible for admission in the sports quota in colleges that consider the same.
Due to change in policy, strong protest from the applicants, and as per the directions of the UGC, DU scrapped the FYUP program, introduced with effect from 2013-14, during the current academic year, and reverted to the previous three-year programme.
