As you get ready to be swayed by gorgeous gowns and sexy dresses at the Oscars this year, we do a quick flashback. Who were the five actresses who chose to wear some of the most path-breaking gowns to the Academy Awards? We find out…read on:
Audrey Hepburn in Hubert de Givenchy (1954):
How can we have list like this and include the original fashionista of Hollywood, Audrey Hepburn? The classic beauty was the true show-stopper in a cream Hubert de Givenchy gown at the 1954 Oscars. Her short cropped hair, minimal make-up and accessories, along with her million-dollar smile made her the diva of that evening. The union between Hepburn and Givenchy is a legendary one, after all it was in this gown that she picked up her Oscar for the Best Actress!
Halle Berry in Elie Saab (2002)
The African-American beauty, who is the first actress of such an origin to bag an Oscar, looked ravishing in this risqué Eli Saab gown. The sheer bust, chick haircut and flowing panels on her gown made her the darling of the red carpet in 2002. It’s a look that upped the Oscar ante for sure and made younger actresses follow suit in sheer ensembles. We love the nude make-up and no-accessory look too. Way to go, girl!
Michelle Williams in Vera Wang (2006)
The lovely Michelle Williams chose a daring colour amid the sea of blacks and peaches. The canary yellow Vera Wang fits snugly on the petite actress and looks smashing against her pale skin. The rich red lips, messy bun and statement necklace are exactly what this look wanted. We wish more actresses would wear this yummy shade to the big night. We are counting on Amy Adams, Jennifer Lawrence and Anne Hathway to do it this year.
Mila Kunis in Elie Saab Haute Couture (2011)
Mila Kunis showed off her feminine side in this lavender Eli Saab that perfectly complimented her olive skin. Drop earrings, an elegant clutch and rose lips finished off her look. She may have lost out on the award, but she sure won brownie points in the style department. The dainty gown was a classic red carpet head-turner and we absolutely love it.
Jennifer Aniston in Valentino (2013)
This voluminous red Valentino is the perfect gown for a gala night like this. The simple, yet stylish gown gives her a princess-y feel and the gorgeous red looks great on her skin. We love how she has worn her hair sleek to let the gown do all the talking. A clutch and a shiny bracelet rounded off her look. We wish to see her do something as stunning as this during this year’s function too. Will she? Won’t she?
Well, these were the best from the Academy Awards gone by. But what about this year’s? Will we see monochromes and thigh-high splits or eccentric prints and neon colours? We do hope that somebody wears a sari-gown and makes us proud! *sheepish wink*
