January was a rather busy month for our lovely ladies as they waltzed in and out of award functions in sexy gowns and elegant sarees. Apart from the various award galas, there were plenty of product launches and movie promotions that saw Bollywood’s leading ladies experiment with their sartorial choices. As we round up this month, we take a look at the hits and misses, fashion-wise. Read on!
Kangna Ranaut: HIT
The petite beauty, who has been having a brilliant run in the fashion department, gave us yet another glimpse of her great sartorial skills in this Dolce & Gabbana Wool Crepe Dress. What highlights the elegant dress is the silver panelling on the sleeves and neck. While someone else would have gone for a fierce lip colour that would have looked too harsh against the dainty dress, Ms Ranaut chose a natural lip shade and winged-eyes. Brownie points for her eye make-up and those retro chic waves! Her elegant footwear and no-accessory look also works for us. Way to go, Ms Ranaut. It’s a total hit for us. What about you?
Sonakshi Sinha: MISS
We really hate picking on Ms Sinha, but this lehenga-saree just doesn’t work for us. The midnight blue lehenga looks rather glaring against the silver-velvet blouse. The fit of her blouse is a bit of a problem too. And when you’re doing dark and shiny, why overdo it by throwing in a sheer chunni? Too much, no? She sure looked pretty neck-up, but overall, the look was a miss for us. Do you guys agree?
Deepika Padukone: HIT
While Deepu is treading the territory of ‘too much bling’, the leggy lass makes it work. Thanks to her statuesque personality and charming smile. In an ombre Jade saree with a gold-maroon blouse, Deepika looked stunning at a recent wedding reception. But what bothered us a tiny bit was her Amrapali jewellery. Considering the amount of shine she had piled on, were those jhumkis and stacked up bangles necessary? But they don’t make her look any less gorgeous, so we would have to give this round to her. Were those accessories a deal breaker for you?
Vidya Balan: MISS
We are waiting for a day when we can feature this power-packed actress on the ‘hit’ list. But for now, she has to make do with the ‘miss’ tag, thanks to her ill-fitting cobalt blue dress and big curls. The Anand Kabra maxi’s colour looks great on her, but the fit makes her twins look rather odd. We are definitely not fans of her curls, which are weighing the whole look down. And what’s with the fall of her sleeves? Tsk tsk. The gorgeous lady can do so much more!
Sonam Kapoor: HIT
Despite all the bling and shine, the pretty Kapoor girl looks like a diva in this Abu Sandeep saree. The drape may be something we are not fans of, but Sonam makes it work. What we absolutely love is her elegant updo and chic make-up. Darker lips would have completely ruined her dainty saree and a clutch in any other colour would have stolen the thunder from her shiny saree. The saree is on our lust-list for sure. On yours too?
Dia Mirza: MISS
The doll-faced beauty hardly messes up when it comes to her clothes, but this time she was far off the mark. The Paisley print-dress, with its awkward sleeves and hemline, was one of the not-quite-there spotting of Dia. Her colour-coordinated wedges and bag aren’t doing any favours to her outfit either. We have seen so much better on her…sigh.
