Life is full of surprises. It is up to you how good or bad you take it to be.
Before you jump to any conclusion, let me tell you that I am a foodie and I totally understand that a five star Hyderabadi dum chicken biryani and a roadside egg pulao have their own individual taste and importance.
I am not comparing the two, nevertheless giving you an insight into what could life be offering you on a plate full of career opportunities.
There’s no doubt about it that we’re all dealing with more surprises in our life than the generations did before us.
Nobody really wanted the economic recession and the changes it brought in our workplaces and business.
What I am trying to imply here is that when you got this job you were probably expecting it to be comprising of something else, however what you got served with, turned out to be similar but not what you had expected.
While the dish you called for can be changed with a little effort and patience, the same does not hold true for your job. It takes a lot of effort and patience to get yourself a job you could stick to for quite a while, so you just cannot go ahead and switch jobs like a plate of biryani.
Imagine a situation like this: It’s a slightly sunny day with a little overcast. You’re in a mood to dine outside, which is why you pull over your favourite restaurant and rather than calling for your patented dish, you try something new. You’re in a happy mood until the dish gets served. The first bite, and you know what are you up for now. You can’t change it and you can’t just throw it away. Now, replace the new dish with a new job and think what’d you have done in a situation like that.
When change is thrust on us, we often resist it and try to prevent it from happening, or we stick with the plan we had in place before the change started to uproot things. But no matter how much you try to move away from it, there will always be parts of change at work that feel difficult, the important thing being that you do not get stuck in the middle of such a thing.
We suggest a few things you could do to easily handle a situation full of surprises.
Acknowledge
In a situation where you cannot step forward and have no option to move back, ask yourself about the reason you are resisting the change. Thank that part for wanting to keep you safe or whatever else it’s been trying to do for you.
Prioritise
When in a dilemma to choose from two important things, sit aside and away from all the disturbance hampering your thoughts and think about the thing that is your priority at present and not in the future. Realise that there are actually more different ways of satisfying what you need and creating what’s important to you in your work.
Flipside
Unless you tasted the biryani you did not know what the flavour was like. And though the egg pulao would be one of the best dishes served there, because you were in a mood to have Hyderabadi dum biryani, you did not feel like taking another morsel of it. But wait for a few minutes and think about why is the other dish one of the best in the restaurant. Every action and thought has a flipside. The faster to get to understand that, the more time will you have to soak in you success.
Life is full of surprises.
It is up to you how good or bad you take it to be. I don’t take it in a good way always, but until now, I’ve never acted in a way, that’d make me regret for the rest of my life.
