You’ve grown up hearing it a number of times- Practice makes a man perfect.

For almost every public speaking, a piece of advice has gone unchallenged for generations: practicing your speech in front of a mirror.

The logic behind the advice is that by rehearsing with a mirror, you’ll able to see yourself as the audience and the speaker, both. That, will help you make instant adjustments to your speech and gauge your effectiveness. But again, public speaking and a job interview are not the same.

In a job interview, nobody wants their responses to sound bottled, but at the same time nobody wants to fumble over questions, which is why career experts say it’s important to rehearse ahead of time. What makes a job interview different from other public speaking opportunities is that you can just predict the questions coming at you, which is why memorizing the answers does not really help here. We tell you how and why should you rehearse yourself before appearing for an interview. Read on!

– The first thing to do while practicing for a job interview is to find someone to rehearse with. Your spouse could be the best option if you’re married. Ideally you may want to rehearse the probable interview questions with someone who has the knowledge about the type of position you’re being interviewed for, someone who will give you an unbiased constructive criticism, so that you get to know the things you need to work on.

– Your goal does not lie in developing pat-ready answers to every question. Your goal lies in being ready for random questions related to your career, to which you answer confidently, or at least sound confident while answering. The advantage of doing mock interviews is that your confidence level boosts up immensely and you develop a feeling about being able to answer similar questions with confidence.

– According to a few career experts, how you practice your interviewing matters to quite an extent. To get the best results, make your rehearsal as real as possible. Dress formally, create a setup like, an office that mainly has a desk and interviewee chair, in an unfamiliar place. Do all those things that involve the most difficult aspects of an interview situation.

Thought there are no set of rules while you take the dummy interview, experts suggest that it’s a good idea to practice until your reach your comfort level.

The best part about interviewing yourself, apart from acknowledging that how good do you look in a suit (wink) is that you get to see which areas do you lack in as an interviewer, and work on it.
