Given that the prelims is just qualifying paper and main exam is what mostly gets you through the whole exam process, it becomes quite important to write well in these exams. Even if you have covered all the topics, your writing skills in the end decide whether you get through.
Here are a few last-minute suggestions to keep in mind and practice over the rest of the month:
1. Believe yourself: Keep calm and believe the toil you have put yourself through. It is quite important as it keeps your mind’s recalling ability in the perfect order.
2. Read carefully: Read each question two or three times with a cool head to understand its requirements. Then only you can decide what will constitute your answer. Treat the question as a single inquiry and not as a collection of inquiries, though at times a question may require you to focus on more than one aspect of a theme.
3. Divide and decide: Split the answer into basic components as almost every question would have two or three parts. Decide on the components and order them in sequence to give a good flow to your answer.
4. Break points: Classify the major and minor points of your answer. This will help you judiciously spend your time and effort on a particular point. Then decide on supplementing other information to it. All the points should appear in a logical sequence to prove the relevance of the material or arguments given by you. Weave a cause-and-effect chain in your answer.
5. Simplicity: Your answers should be simple. They should be full of facts in simple prose without any devices of ornamentation or flowery language. Don’t use any quotation as far as possible. Don’t quote names of authors, books, articles etc with the intention of impressing the examiner. Resist the temptation of writing everything that you happen to know on the subject. Being to the point always helps.
