Every year, the F1 championship sees many new cars making a début and others retiring from the track. We bring a list of 7 cars which were stylish and at the same time created history at the Championships.
Formula 1 or simply F1 is a car racing championship recognized by the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA). A series of Grand Prix races makes a F1 season.
While Grand Prix racing began in 1906, the first world championship took place after more than 4 decades, in the year 1950, at Silverstone, United Kingdom. Since then, there are a horde of F1 cars that have left the audiences awe-struck!
We bring a list of 7 all-time favorite F1 cars that made history in F1 Championships:
1) Maserati 250F: This Italian beauty hit the racing track between January 1954 and November 1960. Driven by Juan Manuel Fangio at the 1954 Argentine Grand Prix, this car won its first race at the event. After this, a saga of victories followed.
2) Lotus 25: Created by Colin Chapman, the Lotus 25 boasts of being the first car in the history of F1 to flaunt a fully stressed monocoque chassis. It led many renowned F1 racing drivers to victory, including Jim Clark, Trevor Taylor, Mike Spence, Chris Amon, Mike Hailwood, and Richard Attwood.
3) Alfa Romeo 159 Alfetta: One of the most successful F1 cars, the Alfetta won 47 out of the 54 championships in which it participated. Emilio Villoresi first drove it in the year 1938 at Coppa Ciano.
4) Ferrari 312T2: Powered by a flat-12 engine, this car participated in the races held from the year 1975 to 1980. It has the credit of winning 27 races, 4 Constructor’s Championships and 3 Driver’s Championships.
5) Ferrari 412 T1: With its début at the 1994 Brazilian Grand Prix, this model from Ferrari helped the Italian company regain its lost position at the F1. Prior to this, Ferrari models were not performing well and the 412 T1 model revived the goodwill of the company.
6) Jordan 191: The 1991 Belgian Grand Prix saw a superb creation – the Jordan 191. Driven by some of the world’s best F1 racing drivers, including Bertrand Gachot, Michael Schumacher, Roberto Moreno, Alessandro Zanardi, and Andrea de Cesaris, this car is among the most beautiful coupé of all times which also led its drivers to victory.
7) McLaren MP4/5: Introduced at the 1989 Brazilian Grand Prix, this F1 contender has a record of 16 wins, 27 pole positions, and 263 points in 2 seasons from 1989 to 1991.
Apart from the above-mentioned cars, there are a horde of others, which deserve special mention, including Mercedes W196, Red Bull RB5, Renault R26, Tyrrell P34, Lotus 79, and more.
