Be it a student of medical sciences, engineering, home science, mass media and not to forget, psychology, ghost stories are one of those things your college life in incomplete without.
It was my first semester in graduation. Having joined the hostel about a month back, I struggled to get used to the way things are done there. Life went on, with the lectures, mess food, college canteen and ‘course with the new friends you get to make.
It was a hot summer Friday. We had our semester exams scheduled from Monday. People all around were immersed in studies. I usually preferred studying in the library, as the sultry heat outside made me very sleepy and hence devoid me of concentration. However, I failed to make it to the library in time, as a result of which I couldn’t get myself a table and had to come back to my room to sleep…oh! I meant study.
The day passed by and at around 8 in the evening I had this self-realization that I hadn’t even finished one chapter in the whole day. Had dinner in the hostel mess, rushed to the room and without wasting another moment, I tried to concentrate, seriously for once. An hour of serious study and bang! My roommate comes in, not to study, but to gossip. Gossip about a ghost story she’d just heard of.
Apparently, few girls in the hostel next to ours, tried Blank Chit and the consequences turned out to be horrifying. The spirit refused to go back and every night, few minuter after they switched off the lights, they heard a knock on the door. When they dialled a friend’s number, who stayed in the room next to theirs, to check who’s at their door, the friend said that she can’t see anyone at their door. Surprisingly, the knocking was continued even when they were on the call.
When the matter was reported to the maitron and police, investigation revealed nothing. No prank, no proof of anything disturbing, nothing. The girls were finally sent home for a vacation (I think, they might have voluntarily left for home) and were allowed to take the exams later. How I wished to be home then. Sigh!
What surprises me now is, that no hostel life is complete without a ghost story. Be it a student of medical sciences, engineering, home science, mass media and not to forget, psychology, ghost stories are one of those things your college life in incomplete without. But not all of them are true. Also, I have this thinking that probably when the ghost sees you taking a lot of effort for studying and catching up with classes, it gets sympathetic towards you.
