Drishti Intercollegiate Youth Festival

Drishti 2015 Intercollegiate Youth Festival

Drishti is Narsee Monjee College’s three-day intercollegiate management youth festival which aims to hone the skills of the management maestros of tomorrow. With a spirit of philanthropy in our hearts, Drishti ’15 has collaborated with JOSH Foundation. JOSH is a movement initiated by eminent ENT surgeon Dr. Jayant Gandhi and Mrs. Devangi Dalal, a renowned audiologist to uplift and empower the hearing impaired individuals of our society. This year, our Social Week extended from the 24th of January to the 1st of February.

DAY 1 – INAUGURATION OF THE SOCIAL WEEK

Inauguration of the Social Week

24th January, not being an ordinary Saturday for the Drishti Team, marked the beginning of its Social Week titled “Stairway to Humanity”. While the Drishti members were seen running helter-skelter preoccupied in their duties, the aura was made all the more lively as the beautiful ‘Stairway to Humanity’ poster went up followed by the official banner of Drishti 2015. After a while, many thronged the venue as Mr. Mahesh Bhatt graced the occasion with his presence along with the actors of “Khamoshiyan” – Gurmeet Choudhary, Sapna Pabbi and Ali Fazal. They inaugurated the donation drive and interacted with many students. Moreover, there were some selfie and dance moments, too. There was a screening of the trailer and the actors gave away Khamoshiyan goodies to the best dancers of the Dance Competition. Everyone was star-struck and dazzled as they took out their phones and cameras to catch a few glimpses on frame. It was indeed a very glorious event, where glamour met a social cause. At the end of the day, the donation box was brimming with contributions.

DAY 2 – REPUBLIC DAY CELEBRATION

Republic Day Celebration at Drishti

“Saare Jahan se accha Hindustan Hamara!”

With these words on our lips and patriotic spirit in our hearts, Team Drishti ‘15 celebrated the 66th Republic Day with the JOSH Foundation children. This celebration included the recitation of the National Anthem which was followed by the flag hoisting ceremony in the N.M. College Campus. Adding a cherry on top was the presence of Ascharya Shetty, the ‘Yum Hain Hum’ actress who thereafter interacted with the JOSH Foundation children. This unique celebration was indeed an experience for Team Drishti as we learnt a lot from those children, who are not any different from us, just unique and diverse in their own way!

The smile on their faces, those glimmering eyes, that learning to not give up, that living life the way it comes, inculcates in us the feeling and desire to be better and not lament over the minute problems in life.

DAY 3 – FLASH MOB

Flash Mob at Infinity, Malad by Drishti Team

“All I wanna say is that they don’t really care about us!”

Finally, the day had arrived. Dancing to the beats of this Michael Jackson song were the Drishti members all ready and pumped to present the FLASH MOB! After hours of hard work and time put in by the Drishti members, the flash mob was a phenomenal success. It was conducted at Infinity 2 (Malad). The main theme around which the flash mob revolved was to instill the feeling of togetherness in the society and make everyone realise that hearing impaired children are to be seen on the same page as us, for they are not different, just unique! Everything in the flash mob, right from the co-ordinated steps to the narration and to the support received from the surrounding, was flawless.

DAY 4 – DRAWING COMPETITION

Drawing competition organised by Drishti

Team Drishti ’15 had organised a ‘Drawing Competition’ on the 31st of January for hearing-impaired students of schools under JOSH Foundation to provide an outlet for their expression. The students were divided into different age groups – 5 to 10, 10 to 15 and 15 to 20. With beaming faces, they took their paintbrushes in hand and started their touch of magic on paper. While they drew, it was a pleasure to watch them, colour the incomplete portions as if unfolding the manifold colours of life one by one. Where some drew sceneries, others were excerpts of abstract art. Towards the end, they were also given a certificate of participation carrying which they went home with broad smiles and heavy hearts. The students were full of talent and potential and created wonders. With support and help, they can make this world a commendable masterpiece.
