As the saying goes, all roads lead to Rome, you know what you want and you try fulfilling it. But destiny will have what it has in store for you.
It was a usual Sunday morning.
After having continuously rained for five days, the weather was a little kind to us for some Sun on a Sunday.
As every third weekend of the month, there was a small family get together brunch. It was her parents’ turn to host it this time. While they savoured the food, followed by refreshing tea and freshly baked muffins, she wondered how her career would shape up five years from then.
After everyone had left, they sat in the courtyard grilling her favourite sandwiches (she loved doing that) and talking about the options she could take up. While on one hand she wanted to earn big bucks, to keep this lifestyle of her maintained, she knew that the option she wanted to go for would never give her that what she dreamt of. She considered joining her father’s business, but knew she would be devoid of satisfaction in that stream.
Her father was in some kind of a textile business. He would go out on some business trip twice a month and get her gifts from there. Though she loved her father for that, she never really wanted to travel. What’s the use, when all of your family is home and you don’t get the time to spend with them, she would say.
She always wanted to be a doctor, and after a long chat with her father, during which he tried telling her he advantages of travelling once in a while. She knew that would bring her wealth, but again that was not her passion. She had always wanted to be a doctor, knowing everything about life.
Years after that conversation with her father, she graduated from one of the best medical college in the country and opted for higher studies. What came as a bad or rather good news was that she was selected as a post graduate candidate in her choice of specialization in one of the best colleges in the world, which was far far away from home. Of all the great things that had happened to her, the one thing that stood out to her was this- the thing which made her happy about what she wanted to do, and what kept her away from her family as well.
Sitting in a business class seat, she wondered if she could really do anything to avoid the situation. It struck her then. There are few things in life you just cannot change, probably because that is what destiny is all about. While she chose to follow her passion, knowing that her dream would have kept her away from her family for long, there are times when you simply cannot run from your own fate.
